'When The Levee Broke...' the new Industrial Canal levee
This is a fascinating piece of art in the Ninth Ward, done by a local artist. The blue poles represent the water (and are the literal height of the flood), the red wall the city, and the various colored chairs represent the missing, the dead, and the survivors.
These homes are being built by Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation, which he began when he felt the reconstruction on the Ninth Ward by the US Government and other organizations was moving too slowly. They build roughly one house per month, all outfitted with solar panels and other state-of-the-art designs. To be eligible for one of the homes, however, you must be a former resident of the neighborhood. This guy is doing some amazing work down there.
