Eva Mendes Covers Net-A-Porter's 'The Edit'

Eva Mendes, who recently launched a collection with New York and Company, covered this month's 'The Edit' magazine for their 'Saints and Sinners' edition. In the article, she speaks on her upbringing as a Catholic and former aspirations of becoming a nun (saints and sinners, indeed) along with her road to becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable sex symbols. At 39, the star of romantic comedy juggernauts like Hitch, with Will Smith, has slowly begun to gravitate to more independent, artsy films, such as her lead role in upcoming and highly anticipated film The Place Beyond the Pines.

During filming in 2011, Mendes was rumored to have become close to co-star Ryan Gosling, and in the two years that they have been dating, she has remained notoriously tight-lipped about him. She doesn't open up in the article; instead, she chooses to discus her eponymous line for retailer New York and Company. Her first foray in fashion design, she created a collection inspired by her own vintage, retro-chic aesthetic. She tells 'The Edit:'

"It's directly inspired by my closet... I get fixated on things. " She also went on to reveal rules she has for getting dressed, and for designing the clothes in her collection, stating, "If you go short, no cleavage or anything super-fitted; if you're covered from head to toe, you can go as fitted as you like."
