When photographer and former Dior Homme designer Hedi Slimane posted pictures of the beautifully haunting Frances Bean Cobain last week, these interwebs went nuts. The fashion blogosphere instantly dubbed her the New 'It' Girl, and thank goodness, because I'm certainly tired of seeing Georgia May Jagger and her ugly mouth everywhere. The sad and sultry pictures feature the famous progeny of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer (and black hole car wreck) Courtney Love, dressed in lace, tee shirts, and piles of silver jewelry.

The images are eerie. Frances smoking cigarettes through pursed lips could be Love's doppelganger, and when she fixes a piercing stare at the camera, it's the spitting image of Cobain. She's clearly the 21st century version of Seattle grunge, with her inky hair and tattoos, but take one look at her and you doubt that she could be the child of any other rockers on the planet.

Grunge's punk princess turned 19 yesterday. Happy Birthday, Frances Bean.

Stay Happy.
