My Tourist's Guide to New York continued on Monday with an evening trip to Roosevelt Island in Manhattan. It was the first really nice, 70 degree day in NYC, so I decided 'Why the hell not?' There are only two ways on the island, via tunnel or ferry/air tram. I opted for the latter. It was a pretty dope view of the city, suspended hundreds of feet above it. The tram is operated by the MTA, so it's only $2.50 to ride back and forth... I'm definitely jealous of the businessmen and -women who get to call this view their daily commute.

The sun was just starting set on the island, and the light over the river was spectacular. Manhattan was just a hop, skip, and a jump away, but there is a quiet and calm on Roosevelt Island that the city lacks- Manhattan's answer to modern suburbia, I guess. In the hour that I sat on the waterfront, I saw dozens of young, upstart couples with babies, joggers with bouncing ponytails, and yuppie urban types who had clearly swapped their high heels for sneakers on the way home.
It's a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. I had dinner and a drink on the island (Happy Hour and no worries about driving, woo-hoo!) before heading home. It was a lovely day.

I wore a brand, spanking new white eyelet shirt from Hurley (button-ups have kind of been my thing these days) with a cream-colored, oversized cocoon sweater from Old Navy and my favorite Uniqlo jeans. My trusty Chucks came along, too, because I wasn't sure of how much walking I'd be doing and didn't want to be caught at the end of the day with sore, tired feet. I like this spunky outfit... It's so ME.
