Let's Get Waisted

Have a closet full of nothing but t-shirts, yet you've recently been hired at a new job? Try incorporating a full, higher-waisted skirt or two into your routine. Seem scary? I agree.

But while I've never, ever been a fan of high-waisted skirts, I'm liking this trend. I always thought these skirts were generally reserved for people trying entirely too hard to be fashionable, and that on most of us they induced a 'pregnancy belly' effect.

And tees were, well, just that- tee shirts. So imagine my surprise when I saw a look that combined the two in a -gasp- cute AND rather work-appropriate look! I'm seeing the t-shirt/ high-waisted skirt combo everywhere as the weather gets warm.

The style varies from bejeweled v-necks with structured pencil skirts to plain white tees tucked into flouncy A-lines, so there is definitely a way for everyone to try this trend. The shirt must be tucked into the skirt, however, so a low-slung waistline makes the fit sloppy.

If you're REALLY worried about a pudgy belly, you can combat it by pairing an elastic waist skirt with a cardigan and belt. This comfortable trend is a good way to utilize seperates you probably already own, by blending casual and business wear for a relaxed dress code at the office. It can also be spiffed up by throwing a shapely blazer on and high pumps, to show that you mean business.
