Quilted, puffy jackets are one of those trends that cycle around and around without ever really stopping.  A throwback to Karl Lagerfeld’s F/W 91 collection for Chanel—where he juxtaposed a tough black leather bomber jacket with a sweet, bubblegum pink evening gown—these looks have been spotted in a variety of styles both on and off the runways this season.

Modernized in both cut, fabric, and pattern to exceed the fail safe satin bomber, jackets with a quilted print are much more texturally interesting, especially on a structured leather or sport coat. Play up your standard leather motorcycle jacket or green utility coat with a quilted pattern this season; it is a great seasonal investment as we head into fall.

TopShop has a fun, cobalt blue piece for $136 that's much more dressy than your typical quilted bomber and can be dressed up or down to work easily into your wardrobe; it's similar to Asos' Vila Quilted Leather Look Jacket, $60. I am in love with the byCORPUS Quilted Camo Jacket, $79, a great alternative to the piece that retails for $124 in Rihanna's signature line for River Island. And for a staple, wear-anywhere jacket, look no further than Zara's Quilted Jacket With Zip, in red or black, for $80.
