Jill Stuart Spring 2014 RTW
The rock and roll collection of Jill Stuart was inspired, she said, by rock stars girlfriends, ‘particularly ones from the seventies.’ Meant to capture the feel of those stylish icons as they travel from holiday back to their day-to-day lives, the collection was a blend of casual resort wear and luxe urban pieces. These are clothes meant to travel from lounging poolside to hailing taxis curbside, and it shows, in thigh-length caftans, mesh baby-doll dresses, and an abundance of leather.
Modern and contemporary, there were quite a few interesting silhouettes and fabrics: Stuart utilized halter necks, cutouts, and floral appliqués with mesh, leather, eyelet lace, and organza. The monochromatic color palette was almost strictly black and white, with pops of ice blue and gray. Each piece was flirty and youthful, yet polished and sultry.
I love these pieces. The rock sensibility is apparent, yet none of the items are over-the-top or costume-y. They also walk a fine line of sexiness, even when the items are entirely sheer (a halter neck eyelet dress would, presumably, be worn with a bra and underwear).
