The Hills Are Alive

The modern clog has been a huge trend, albeit one that I haven't been too crazy about. Supposedly they're the 'new stiletto,' marching down runways from Chanel to Alexander Wang. Heralded as edgier, chunkier, platform-ier and all around cooler than the mules of seasons past, they also have a heft that works well with the fitted, long skirts and slim-cut cargos of fall.

I've never seen the beauty of a shoe that looks like it just rolled out of The Sound of Music, but I can definitely get onboard with the high-heeled, buckled version they have over at Topshop.

More a bootie than a clog, this shoe works because it has the perfect balance of old and new. It has the chunky wooden heel of the shoe traditionally worn by workers as protective clothing in factories, mines and farms- and that's it. The worn brown leather, silver buckle, and shape all scream 'motorcycle boot,' which is right on trend. Nothing says 'bad-ass' like this clog. (Who knew?)
