Do Up Your Laces

One of the most interesting trends floating around now has got to be the revamping of lace. Usually reserved for pale, flouncy summer dresses, black and navy lace ensembles have firmly moved into fall with long-sleeved, slim silhouettes and pairings with heavier fabrics.

Navy and black lace are both romantic and punk this year. It showed up just about everywhere this season, on tights, shoes, dresses, and skirts. Long-sleeved lace button-ups and overlays on skirts are especially popular, and look great with the lace-up boots also prevalent this season.

This material manages to be body-conscious without actually hugging the body, due to its flimsy nature. Lace shows just the right amount of skin, even more so when used to accent cheeky cutouts on a cocktail dress. It also embellishes itself, so there's no need for much jewelry. The romanticism goes well with structured military pieces, and mixing lace with luxe materials like satin also create a fun, sophisticated vibe.

One of the easiest, and most dramatic, ways to do lace is by donning a black maxi lace dresses. They are entirely doable, as long as you make sure you wear something underneath them (it seems like a moot point, but it's not).

A shorter skirt with the long, transparent hemline gives the vibe of tattoos and shows off flesh nicely. To avoid looking like Morticia Addams, watch the fit and length of anything lace you wear. Unless you want to look like her. Because she is kind of fabulous.
