A reader sent in a request for what she should wear to a job interview today, at a salon. The position is managerial with some hairstyling roles as well, and she wanted something fun yet professional. She also has a large tattoo on her arm that she wanted to make sure was covered and didn't specify what kind of salon it was, so I did a few different looks.
The first look is quirky, for a more trendy, laid-back salon. A blue tunic top with leggings (preferably calf-length), and interesting flats shows a sense of style and ability to be up on the latest fashions. The blazer on top is professional and holds the whole thing together.
The second look is far more polished, for an upscale place. (You know the kind. Where you have to book your haircut three months in advance and it costs $300.) I still wanted to showcase creativity, so I put a twist on the classic black pant/white blouse combo. The trousers I used have a silk waistband, like a cumberbund, and instead of buttons, the top features a big bow. T-straps instead of regular pumps give the outfit more pizzazz.
The last look is the simplest. A colorful wrap dress with the jacket and flats has an ease, yet poise, to it that's perfect for the available position. Each of these looks says something different about her as an applicant, and how she fits into that salon, but each brings a spunk with professionalism.
