And I Am A Maternity Girl

In a time where there are shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Teen Mom, it was only a matter of time before major retailers geared toward teens would hop onboard the baby train. Forever 21 is the first to do it, with their Love 21 Maternity launch.

They've been lambasted by critics, however, who feel the new line is inappropriate. News outlets report quotes like that of The Stir blogger Cynthia Dermody: "Even some teen girls interviewed by the local ABC affiliate said they believe the clothes will inspire some of their friends to have sex and deliver a child." (www.syracuse.com)

How utterly ridiculous. That's like saying Lady Gaga's 'Alejandro' video will inspires some soldiers to get drunk and rape nuns. Sorry, but I just don't get the criticism of this one; it reeks like the whole 'Sex Ed encourages promiscuity' debate.

PhotobucketIs that Emilie de Ravin?

Supply and demand is the nature of business, and Forever 21 is merely meeting the supply of moms who want to be stylish. It's a common complaint among stylish women that the clothes afforded to them when they get pregnant are simply not the same caliber as the ones they can wear when they're normal size.

These clothes are completely adorable, affordable, and are clearly marketed towards older women... their entire 'Love 21' line, as a matter of fact, is geared towards grown-ups. Where would a teen wear this:

It's not even styled with a teen model.

Yeah, so I'm pretty sure 'sophisticated style' is code for 'older lady.' You can shop the line here.

props to @TracieMae for the scoop
