Erin Go Bralette

Taking the innerwear-as-outerwear trend a step further, the latest look burning up the blogosphere is the bralette. It's being paired with high-waisted trousers, skirts, and tailored jackets.

The bralette is essentially a bra, with thicker shoulder straps and a wider band around the middle. It's a daring yet strangely sweet look, reminiscent of Bettie Page and old-school bathing suits.

When worn with the high bottoms, it shows just the right sliver of skin; the space above the navel and below the cleavage. It's chaste yet sexy at the same time, as it doesn't veer into the v-zone or show off much stomach. The bralette is an extremely chic way to display a toned midriff.

It can be worn for day, peeking out of a blazer and harem pants, like the first picture, but a look this extreme is best suited for a night out. A bubble skirt and high heels are excellent with this top, but watch the proportions to avoid skanky territory. (Too big on top or bottom and you're headed for disaster.)

A finishing touch? Pile on jewelry to camoflauge the bareness of the top.
