These Sandals Were Made for Stompin'

Blake Lively in Sergio Rossi Majuli Studded Flat Sandals

Flip-flops have long been a summer staple, but as temperatures rocket into the 80's and 90's this year, trade in your rubber Haviana's for an edgier look: the embellished, heavy-duty sandal.

They should have only the lowest heel, if any at all, but more than make up for it with studs, feathers, ankle bands, and eye-popping colors. (A heel takes away from the easy whimsy of a shoe that can be worn it's 90 degrees outside and that sky-high pair of leather wedges just won't cut it.) Fancy, flat sandals are especially useful as they can spice up a plain cotton dress, jeans, or your prettiest party outfit.

This pair by Chinese Laundry has got to be one of my favorites, as it features tassels, turquoise beads, and bright orange accents. A shoe like this is an easy way to display a perfect pedicure, and isn't priced too high, at $79:

The ever-popular gladiator has stuck arouns summer after summer, coming in both ankle and knee-high lengths. While I don't really like looking like my foot has been trapped in a cage or escaped from the B.C. era, a gladiator in an atypical color, like red. unmistakably toughens up any outfit.

One of the more popular trends has also been a sandal with a thin toe strap and thick leather, suede, or canvas ankle bands. This rocker look is best worn with bare legs, to maximize the impact of the unconventional shoe. If you're not sure this look is for you, the pair below is an easy $39- perfect for testing out the trend.
