Zac Posen for Target Shopping Party

Thursday was quite eventful! A couple of hours after the MoMA, I went to the Zac Posen shopping party downtown. We waited for HOURS in the freezing cold; the line was around the block! And boy, did the girls turn out in their finest. Cute little spring dresses, solid platform boots, and every kind of jacket you can think of filled 34th Street. Cheers went up for supposed celebrity arrivals, but after three sprints around the block and getting nothing for my trouble but a guard waving me back to the line, I gave up.

At about 10 past 11pm, they let us peasants in- and it was like opening the floodgates. Scratch that, it was a feeding frenzy. Women ripped dresses, pants, and jackets from free-standing garment racks and helped themselves to Shirley Temples. Waitresses modeled after 1920's cigarette girls passed out party favors and masks, and the Like performed in clothes from the exclusive line.

The collection was beautiful; Posen designed seperates in primary colors, meant to be mixed and matched so they could be worn to any event. A leotard printed with a button-down shirt and tie pattern could easily double for the office or a night out with the girls. This fashion-meets-function approach was clearly the heart and soul of this line.

Cocktail dresses made out of heavy brocade, chic blazers cut close to the body, and a flowered maxi dress made out of a smooth jersey were customer favorites, as were some sparkly gold bathing suits. My all-time favorite was a red leather jacket that I snagged for $200 (ugh, I know- but it was SO WORTH IT.) Mannequins were carefully styled to be the life of the party.

And boy, was it a party. There were dim, red lights, balloons, and loud music. The only trouble was that, the moment any of the racks were refilled, the girls zeroed like piranha, complete with snapping jaws. Remember the sample sale scene from Confessions of a Shopaholic? Now imagine it's midnight and about 35 degrees. When my partner in crime asked a girl if she was refilling a rack, she snapped, "NO! These are MINE!" And proceeded to clutch her 30 items closer to her chest. Really, the girl had three of everything.

I left at 1am with a blazer, leather jacket, and red party dress with detachable crinoline skirt... I LOVE IT!

I remixed what I wore to the MoMA exhibition with my brown boots and a big, black hairbow.
