For the past few months, you haven't been able to ride a subway car or open up a magazine without coming across Stiegg Larsson's Man Som Hattar Kvinnor, or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. A Swedish murder mystery modelled after the likes of Agatha Christie and other classic whodunit novels, the book became an immediate bestseller and is now a global smash movie (and in subtitles, no less!)

A Swedish murder mystery modelled after the likes of Agatha Christie and other classic whodunit novels, the book became an immediate bestseller and is now a global smash movie (and in subtitles, no less!) The film follows the fantastically cast Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, a young punk who becomes an impromptu detective after teaming up with a reporter to solve a 40-year-old murder. Lisbeth is hard as nails, a genius computer hacker with a photographic memory and a penchant for facial piercings (and for that alone she's won a place in my heart). But her clothes!

She motorcycles around Sweden in a colorblocked, robin's egg blue leather jacket as the man hangs on the back. She's wickedly androgynous in black biker boots and jeans so tight they put 'jeggings' to shame. Lisbeth has an easy, dangerous sex appeal, the kind that makes good girls everywhere want to go bad. If we all could look like this, why WOULDN'T we want to go bad?

If we all could look like this, why WOULDN'T we want to go bad?The key to pulling this off without looking like you dived into emo, 15-year-old boy angst is not to go too extreme. Edgy haircut? Check. Zac Efron man-bang? Minus. Black leather jacket? Check. Dog collar? Not so much. Hardware and tough materials need to be mixed in with garments that you already have for maximum wearability in the real world. Your motorcycle jacket will always, always, toughen up a sweet dress, and don't be afraid to mix pops of color with an all-black silhouette.
And aside from an unfortunate scene early in the movie involving black lipstick (which never looks good on anyone. Ever.), I was also rather fond of Lisbeth's makeup choices. Clothing this severe looks best with a pretty, almost bare face:
