Dress Me Up

So I recently moved into a new place... and by recently, I mean six months ago (ahem). While I've been meaning to buy a new dresser for awhile, other purchases have been eating up my spare time (like these incredibly fabulous shoes). But a rainy Tuesday prompted me to gather up some friends and head to Ikea, and I am now the proud owner of a Rast dresser!

I know. It's a tad... unassuming. But I've done a little googling, and decided that this will be step 1 in my DIY bedroom overhaul. I'm going to start with the dresser, then add a some shelving, a ocuple of decorative boxes, maybe a rug or two. I live in Manhattan, and every day I wake up and feel like I could utilize my space SO much better.

So, the only question is how do we turn this semi-assembled pile of pine:



Into this:
